Kirtan is very much a ‘practice of the heart’. It involves singing / chanting together, usually as call and response. The chants are mostly in Sanskrit but the words are straight forward and everyone can join in. You don’t need any experience for kirtan and everyone is welcome.
Together, we’ll sing ancient mantras accompanied by harmonium, drums, creating a shared soundscape that invites connection and inner peace. Whether you sing softly, listen quietly, or let your voice soar, you’ll be part of the collective energy that makes kirtan so transformative.

Philosophy Café.
1-3pm every last Thursday of the month.
With ‘Philosophy Café’ we aim to ignite our minds to deep thinking. To consider, reconsider and seed new thoughts. This is a group which offers a meeting place for those wishing to engage in deep debate, but also those who are wishing to meet others and spark up meaningful conversation.
Each month we introduce concept, thought and perception to evoke a strong dialogue , allowing all to participate or to sit, consider and enjoy. Like the great philosophers of the past, we reintroduce a small space for expansive thought.

Silent Book Club.
7-9pm every last Thursday of the month.
Come join us for a companionable reading experience at Open House. Readers bring their own book, there is no assigned reading, we read together at our own pace. The group offers an opportunity for focused, quiet reading time - an introvert friendly social meet up, no small talk required.
Over the 2 hours the first 30 minutes would be used to settle in, get a drink and find a comfortable space. An hour of silent reading would follow and then the last 30 minutes given over to chat or keep reading.

Artist Meetup.

Each meetup, we take it in turn to lead a creative class. One meetup, Pip Mactaggart shared her watercolor technique, and on other meetups we painted outside with Samuel Rignall, and explored drawing from the imagination with Shaun Friend. Liz Hanks: ‘Land’ Live.
From 7pm on Saturday, 18th October.
“An immersive album of depth and subtlety” - Folk Radio UK
Liz Hanks is a cellist, composer and collaborator based in Sheffield. She has worked with an impressive and varied array of high-profile artists including performing and recording with Richard Hawley, Liam Gallagher, Self Esteem, Martin Simpson, Pulp, Thea Gilmore, Cara Dillon, Jason Singh and Jasdeep Singh Degun.
Based on the local and natural history of her neighbourhood in Sheffield, Liz Hanks’ ‘Land’ album (Hudson Records) explores both the loss of nature in the urban environment and forgotten natural worlds. She discovered that the now urban area of Meersbrook was once a beautiful valley called ‘Rush Dale’. Inspired by reading written accounts of this lost valley she created ‘Land’ in remembrance of these lost times and places.

Ecstatic Dance with Reya Caroub.
7-9pm on Saturday, 25th October.
Ecstatic Dance is a free-form movement journey and moving meditation that’s sweeping the world! Guided by live DJ Reya Caroub, we flow through an epic soundscape of all genres: fast and slow, classical to psytrance, drum and bass to dub - no style is off-limits! The music moves in waves; starting gently, building to vibrant peaks, and ending in stillness.
There are no steps, no judgment, no need to perform - just pure, free expression. We generally dance barefoot, without talking, in a sober, mindful space where respect and presence create a safe container. Ecstatic Dance is transformative, playful, and deeply liberating.
